Solar Water Pumping
| It is convenient to our
divide our involvement in solar powered pumping into
three areas: |

(A)
small scale domestic pumping of up to 4,000
litres/day and to 50m head using economically priced
diaphragm pumps such as Flojet,
Shurflo and Johnson.
This includes both surface and borehole pumping
(B)
commercial scale pumping for stock watering,
irrigation, horticulture, village supplies, etc.
These systems need to be robust and reliable. For
these systems we supply Lorentz centrifugal pumps
for low head high flow applications and Lorentz
helical rotor pumps for heads up to to 180m.
The systems comprise a solar array, that provides
power via a controller to the pump. The pump consists
of either a centrifugal or helical rotor pump coupled
directly to a DC motor.
The pump and motor are housed in a single
submersible waterproof assembly. The same motor/pump
assembly is used regardless of whether pumping is
from a bore, well, pond or stream. There are also
balance of system components, such a solar array framing,
cabling, fuses and high and low level
switches.

for the chlorinates. In these applications we use
Badu transfer pumps.

This small fountain kit contains a top quality 12
or 22 W Photowatt Solar Moduale,
a maximiser and a quality pump.
The kit does not include tubing, spray nozzle, fountain
dish or plumbig to ensure the dish is kept full of
water. These latter products are readily available
from garden shops. The moduale comes with a 10 year
warranty and a 25 -40 year design life. The pump is
not a cheap bilge pump found in some garden kits.
It has a brushless motor with s magnetic drive (no
shaft seal).
The pump has a 2 year warranty and a design motor
life of 15,000 hours (eg: 5 - 6 year design life at
7 hours/day operation).
It delivers 13 litres/minute at 1 meter head or
5 litres/minute at 1.5m head (using the 22W solar
moduale in full sun).

Watermax submersible pumps
The Watermax range of pumps are positive displacement,
dual diaphragm submersible pumps constructed of high quality
bronze and stainless steel. These world renowned pumps are
manufactured in South Africa by All Power. The pumps deliver
flow rates of between 700 and 17000 litres per day and can
be run off a variety of solar modules configurations. Maximum
total head depends on the solar module choice and pump selection,
but can vary between 20m and 150m. Multiple pumps can also
be installed down the same well or borehole.

The Shurflo Smart Sensor Variable Speed Pump
is a recent innovation in DC pumps. The embedded
electronics controls the pump speed to what is
required. So if you are just getting a 'dribble'
out of your taps, the pressure pump will come
on slowly - as you open the tap, the pump will
speed up to produce the required flow. The variable
speed pump offers several advantages over a conventional
pressure pump: 1. Smoother water flow 2. Better
temperature control in a hot water system 3. Uses
less power as the pump only comes on at a speed
which is required. 4. Less wear and tear on the
pump cycling on/off so often 5. Quieter operation
6. Generally no need for an accumulator tank.
